CHARLES DARWIN UNIVERSITY AUSTRALIAN CENTRE FOR INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGES & EDUCATION (ACIKE)

Darwin, NT

The ACIKE’s purpose is to cater for indigenous students throughout all regions of the NT and East Kimberley, providing education in a modern facility that is sensitive to their cultural needs. Imperative to the success of this project is the provision of outdoor spaces offering flexibility of use. These outdoor spaces will hold ceremonies of varying scales and types, including formal ceremonies, family gatherings, dances and performances, as well as educational learning.

A key feature of the landscape is the series of connected, permanent and ephemeral ponds and creek beds winding their way through the site. These elements were important factors in the project obtaining a Green Star Credit Rating.
