JERRABOMBERRA WETLANDS RESERVE

Canberra, ACT

This reserve lies in a critical position, located at the eastern foreshore of Lake Burley Griffin, in close proximity to Canberra’s city centre, the parliamentary precinct and the international airport.

While the original natural environment of the wetlands site has been highly modified, the reserve still performs an important natural systems function. However, as the wetlands are bordered by ongoing urban development, they are at risk of becoming increasingly isolated and subject to further external impacts that could undermine their rich natural, cultural heritage and social values.

CLOUSTON was appointed by the ACT government to create a Master Plan Report to guide Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS), the Environment and Planning Directorate (EPD) and the Jerrabomberra Wetlands Management Committee in the development and management of the reserve and, in particular, the development of the boundary with future urban developments.
