WAVERTON PENINSULA MASTER PLAN

Waverton, NSW

20 years ago, a rare opportunity arose to create a dramatic new public space on Sydney Harbour.

Following community concerns and much debate, the BP, Caltex and Coal Loader post-industrial sites were secured for public access in perpetuity.

The Waverton Peninsula Master Plan – prepared by CLOUSTON Associates for North Sydney Council – was the first plan developed under the new State Environmental Planning Policy No 56 for Sydney Harbour Foreshores and Tributaries.

The Master Plan has guided the sites’ repurposing in the two decades. It’s a story of strong vision realised through collaboration and shared commitment across the landscape architecture profession.

Today the delivered parklands are a fitting tribute to the community who fought for their right to access these landscapes from the outset.
