CAVENAGH STREET SHADE STRUCTURE
Darwin, NT
CLOUSTON Associates was a key member of the team who developed the landscape concept plan and documentation for a 250m stretch of Darwin’s Cavenagh Street. The shade structure is one of a suite of heat mitigation projects across the city that have targeted specific ‘hot spots’, where heat mapping has identified surface temperatures can exceed 65 degrees.
The 55 metre long pergola is made from locally sourced Darwin Stringybark timber, and in time will be covered in vines that create shade and cool the street. The structure has helped breathe life back into the city centre, forming an ambient canopy for city workers, residents and street festival visitors.
