HYDE PARK MASTER PLAN AND PLAN OF MANAGEMENT
Sydney, NSW
CLOUSTON has been involved in the design of Australia’s oldest, much-loved and frequently visited public park for the past 17 years.
Following the City of Sydney’s preparation in 1987–89 of a comprehensive Draft Plan of Management and Master Plan, CLOUSTON completed detailed design, contract documentation and project management of major upgrade works in Hyde Park North to the value of $5.5 million. This involved redeveloping the main avenue and Archibald Memorial Fountain Setting with new paving, edging and entry walls, and improving the aspect from St James Station at Market and Elizabeth Streets.
Since then, the impacts of maturing and disease to major trees and the influences of an evolving inner city have required the City of Sydney’s plans to be revised. CLOUSTON was again engaged as lead consultant to review and update the Draft Plan of Management of 1989 and further develop the Master Plan.
In 2011, CLOUSTON was commissioned by the City to prepare a refined Master Plan for the park.
Both plans were adopted in November 2006 and a program of works to the value of $37 million is currently under way.
